    Story

    Daisy's Snakebite Treatment

To anyone who doesn't know Daisy, she's my beloved 12-year-old golden retriever and the light of my life. Her sweet gentle spirit and kooky nature are impossible not to fall in love with. One of her favourite outdoor pursuits, besides chasing squirrels, is snuffling around in the undergrowth. Unfortunately, this got her into a spot of bother recently!

Daisy was bitten on her jaw by an adder, and needed emergency veterinary treatment to save her life. As I do not have the funds to pay the vet bill, I want to try and raise the money by crowdfunding. It would be amazing if you could make a small donation of £1 or £2 to help me do this! Please don't think this isn't generous enough... the whole point of crowdfunding is to encourage lots of people to give a little. It's easy to donate anonymously too.

Daisy was a very poorly girl, but is on the mend now thanks to our brilliant vets. They acted fast and gave her the best possible care. However, given my current circumstances the £1,200 bill has put me in a big financial pickle. The cost of the antivenom alone represents almost 50% of the bill – at a whopping £587.

Antivenom was needed because of Daisy's age (there is a higher risk of toxicity in older dogs) and because she was in danger of suffering breathing difficulties due to the swelling around her face and throat. She had a widespread inflammatory reaction to the snakebite, during which her temperature, heart rate and blood pressure shot up very high. But once the antivenom had been administered, and after 24 hours of IV fluid therapy, methadone, antibiotic and antihistamine, her condition stabilised.

The swelling has now almost all gone and the puncture wounds are healing beautifully. All Daisy's bloods have come back normal, indicating that any potential kidney damage from the venom was successfully prevented by the treatment she received. This is a tremendous relief, and I am truly grateful to Andrew and Louise and their wonderful team at Oak Barn Vets.

Please share this page and give a little something if you feel moved to do so. It will help a LOT! With love and heartful thanks from me and my girl. 💛
