Karen is a nurse who has given a total of 33 years service to the NHS, including 16 years at Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. She became ill suddenly and found herself fighting sepsis. Thankfully, Karen survived her initial fight with sepsis. However, it left her with circulation problems to her hands and feet, which resulted in the amputation of both her legs below the knee. She is now also awaiting an operation to remove her fingers.
