Story
On Sunday the 2nd June 2019, I am participating in the SSE Walled City Marathon event in Derry, Northern Ireland.
I hope to raise funds on behalf of my cousin Colleen Markey Pentony and her husband Jamie, for their terminally ill son Alfie and his ongoing battle with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (a severe musle wasting disease) is slowly killing poor Alfie, and his parents need to raise £150,000 to take Alfie to America for a gene therapy trial. This trial may not only prolong his life, but provide the cure we all hope for.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy affects around 1 in 3,600 boys and gradually weakens every muscle in the body. The severe disorder gradually cause the muscles to weaken, leading to an increasing level of disability. Men with the condition will usually only live into their early 20's.
Any contribution towards this fundraiser could literally be life-changing for Alfie and his family.
