    Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit Barry Thornhill's page.

Barry, or for many of you Danny, sadly passed away on the 15th August 2018 after he suffered a heart attack whilst on holiday with his loving wife Janet. During his last few days he was cared for by the dedicated and tireless staff of the intensive care unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital – and to those amazing people we are eternally grateful.

In memory of Barry, and to hopefully help others not to experience the anguish of losing a loved one in these circumstances, our family would like to purchase, install and maintain a defibrillator at a location close to our family’s hearts.

It would mean the world to us if you were able to donate even the smallest amount which will help us to reach our target. Any funds raised over the target amount will be donated to a second organisation that Barry had a strong affinity with, the RNLI. Spending the whole of his working life on the Manchester Ship Canal, Barry was always extremely interested and supportive of the work done by these dedicated and courageous volunteers. We are sure that he would be extremely proud that his legacy would help save the lives of people on the seas surrounding our country.

    Smile away.

Well, we’ve reached a point where we’ve decided to close down the page and get onto the next stage in this process - the purchase of the defibrillator and the donation of the remaining funds to the RNLI. Thank you to all who dontated whether in person or online - the whole family are eternally grateful for your support. More news to follow but as always ‘Smile Away’

Again a huge thank you to all who have donated - it is honestly humbling to see the target surpassed well in advanced of Barry/Danny/Dad’s funeral. As regards this, the funeral is the 14th September, at 1.15pm at All Saint's Church (Church Street, Runcorn, WA7 1LD). Smile Away!
