Story
Hello, i’m Daniel. This May I will be running Leeds half marathon in support of two incredible charities
The Sick Children‘s Trust and the Children’s Heart Surgery Fund.
On September 21st 2018, after finding out my wife and I were having a little girl, we also found out the doctors suspected she had an anomaly with her heart. Being referred to Leeds hospital for further scans, we the learned we would deliver at Leeds General Infirmary as our it was likely our daughter was going to be born with a congenital heart defect.
Fast forward to 27th December our beautiful baby Connie Elizabeth was born. Over an hour away from our home, with a baby who required specialist care, we were forttunate to be given housing by The Sick Children‘s Trust for the duration of out stay at the hospital. Without this we’d have to leave our baby behind every night and make the long journey back home to Chesterfield. We wouldn’t have been a 5 minute walk away from her had a problem arose. This made a very difficult time just a little easier.
Over the 5 days the care and attention given to Connie was incredible, with around the clock monitoring, and daily heart scans to ensure our girl could come home. The consultants and nurses attention and support was unparalled and on new years day, we got to bring her home!
Our story doesn’t end there though, at 8 weeks Connie is still undiagnosed. Appointments will continue with cardiac consultants from Leeds over the next year of her life, if not longer to ensure she doesn‘t develop coarctation of the aorta, one of the four major congenital heart defects and also to monitor a suspected hole in her heart. Possible surgical treatment will be needed over the next few months.
Both these charities are incredible support system yo families with poorly children, and without them many wpuld struggle to come to terms with the outcome of their babies health.
If you wish to donate, any amount is greatly appreciated, so these charities can contine the amazing work they do. Thank you ❤️ x
