Page update - Monday 10th June 2019!

Yesterday, Sunday 9th June 2019, we as a family were with Dan as he peacefully slipped away after a long hard battle. We lost our beautiful boy to this dreaded disease, .Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma Cancer! Dan fought long and hard to rid himself of this terrible disease but despite everything he became too unwell to carry on and try any more alternatives than he already had been able to with your kind donations. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your help and donations and between the Just Giving Page raising £14,955 and Dans Black Tie Dinner raising £5639.39 we managed to go over and beyond our target of raising £20,000. Dan was so touched by all your kindness and the beautiful messages he received supporting him throughout this stage. I now as the organiser of the fundraising feel it appropriate to pass the remainder of the funds to his family to help with funeral arrangements to give Dan the send off he deserves and to donate the remainder to a Cancer Research of their choice. Rest Peacefully our beautiful boy, you melted my heart the minute i met you. You could light up the room with your smile. It was an absolute honour and a pleasure to have you in our lives for the past 12 months, you were one beautiful soul and will be in our hearts forever xxxxxxx

Dan came into our lives and his happy smiling face lights up any room, even on his darkest days he continually smiles. A member of the British Transport Police Federation his friends and family will know just what a wonderful inspirational person Dan is with a truly big heart. He has battled through such heartbreak and pain and deserves the chance to prolong his life. Lets give Dan the chance and support he needs to get the treatment that he continually researches and believes in and certainly deserves.

Dan has been suffering with a rare and aggressive form of cancer which was first diagnosed in 2004. The Cancer returned in 2016 and Dan has been battling since. After gruelling chemotherapy, life threatening surgery and proton beam therapy , the cancer returned again in April 2018. Unfortunately this time it has spread to several places and according to doctors he is no longer curable and told to prepare for the worst. He has tried a few palliative treatments to slow things down to allow him more time but none of it has had any benefit.

Mesenchymal Chondrosarcoma, as with many other sarcomas are very difficult to treat and often return. Some treatments work, and some just don’t. No one really knows why. Current regimes for this type of cancer have a very low percentage of working.

Although the NHS has and does offer great support and standard protocol treatments, they are limited on knowledge of this type of cancer and behind on new and innovative treatments that may have benefit to at least prolong life.

These treatments are expensive and go into the thousands, if not tens of thousands of pounds. Raising money will open up options available for alternative and potentially innovative treatments that are available privately.

For example, further genetic testing of the tumours may show sensitivities to certain drugs. This test alone would cost £2000 but would be massively beneficial to Dans treatment.

Alternative cancer therapies are expensive. Initial consultation with a clinic in London will be £500 then £400 for every subsequent appointment, plus thousands more for the complimentary treatments.

So many friends and family have mentioned a fundraising page to help raise money for these treatments so I've took the initiative to start this page for us all to do just that.
