‘We Shall Overcome’ is a community group - there are WSOs in lots of towns and cities across Britain and each of us work within our own communities where we are needed most - a lot of the work I do here in Ashton is with the homeless, but also with vulnerable people after we have got them housed to make sure that they are managing.....at the moment I am doing around 50 packed lunches a day for the homeless men and women who collect them between 12 and 6pm -that also means that we can signpost them to professional help and I work closely with the local homeless project at Greystones as well as a couple of other local charities that offer mental health support and counselling....as well as that we help to house people, help them with furniture and then make sure they have start up packs to get them up and running. Everything we do is based on donations, but we also don't have costs as I do it all from the pub, which means that every penny that is raised can do to where it will make a difference, we're housing one older gent tomorrow who was facing street homelessness and is really too ill to manage out there.....
