Weʼve raised £500 to help build 2 'Classrooms for Janet' in Ethiopia!

Funded on Friday, 14th December 2018

    Story

A massive part of our Family was taken from us just after Christmas when Janet finally had to succumb to her fight against cancer.

She always remained positive and uplifting for those around her, despite what she was going through, and her family know now, more than ever, what an inspiration she was for everyone she knew.

Janet was a teaching assistant for many years at St Marys Primary School and loved playing her part in helping young children through their early school lives.

As a tribute to Janet, and linked to this love of children, several members of the family are embarking on a trip to a remote village in Ethiopia in February 2019 to build two new classrooms, that will be in Janet’s name, and will provide a stable learning environment for around 160 pupils aged between 7 to 10 years old. Janet would have loved the thought of ‘doing good’ for children, no matter where they are in the world.

However, to build two new classrooms, wherever you are in the world, is not an easy or cheap ambition! The family need to raise £18,000 to make ‘Janet’s Classroom' a reality.

This is where I play my own small part. With my less than ‘fit for purpose’ body (wrapped in lycra!), I will be taking on 100 miles of the South Downs finest hills, descents and weather in the Velo South on the 23rd September.

I’m trying to raise what I can to help achieve this target and for a lot of good to be done in Janet’s name.

Thank you for visiting this page and the family will be really grateful for whatever you are able to donate.

For Janet – always with us and never forgotten! XX

Unfortunately, the Velo South ride for Sunday has been cancelled due to the terrible weather forecast. A shame as I feel my week on holiday eating & drinking in Crete had got me in perfect condition for it!! They will re-arrange and I’m committed to doing it whenever that happens, so I hope you are still ok with the donations you have made. The money will really help the Team on this great project in my Sisters memory. Thank You!!
