Weʼve raised £2,090 to celebrate the life of David Ashman and to raise funds to create a prize or a bursary in his memory at the Royal Academy of Music.

Story
David Ashman was born in Kent and, after gaining a BA Hons. in Music and German at Southampton University, studied as a member of the Advanced Opera Course at the Royal Academy of Music. He had in the past worked with English National Opera and had been a regular performer at the Royal Opera House.
At the RAM David won several prizes including the Andrew Sykes Award and the Katie Thomas Prize. He had a wide repertoire of opera, oratorio and song ranging from Monteverdi to Penderecki and had a busy singing career in England and in Europe.
David was a kind and generous man who was famous for his hosting skills; throwing the most memorable parties. His kindness touched many people far and wide; he had a positive attitude even during some very difficult times in his life. Having known David for over 30 years and having been his flatmate for the past four I have experienced first hand his generosity, love and support.
In his memory I feel that David would have approved of our wish to set up a prize or bursary in his memory at the Royal Academy of Music so that his love of opera will live on.

6 years agoThank you all who were able to attend last Friday, for supporting me and for celebrating the life of our dear friend David Ashman. We have achieved a lot, but there is much more to do - we have at least 1 years prize in his name at the Royal Academy of Music - we need a couple more; so please consider donating if you have not already and/or sharinging far wide. 6 years agoThank you to all of David Ashman's friends who have helped kick-start this crowdfunding initiative in his memory, we are already at 8% of the overall target, but have a long way to go to reach our target. It would be wonderful if this could be shared far & wide; to those who knew David; worked with David & who loved David. Anyone wishing to do their own fundraising event to add to this target would be very much welcomed. There will be a collection on the day of his celebration on 13 April which will be added to this fund. Thank you <3
