Story
I am going to attempt to complete the Jurassic Coast Challenge on the 8th June, covering 100km of coastline non-stop and in one go. I decided that the charity that I have chosen to help is Mango Tree Home. Near Port-au-Prince in Haiti it was set up by my Dad “Bob” and provides a safe family environment for orphans and abandoned children since the devastation of the 2010 earthquake.
January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake hit Haiti. A local nurse called Genevievre found herself caring for 6000 terrified, people in the emergency camp at the Dadadou sports field in Port Au Prince. Her care was unconditional, her efforts almost super-human and she soon found herself in-charge of 74 children who had lost their parents.
Bob built a small walled compound with 3 buildings to house the children away from the troubled areas, a peaceful plot was found with a huge Mango Tree which is now inside the small courtyard and the safe environment and happy home was named Mango Tree Home, where the kids are secure and live as a large family in a safe and loving environment amongst a growing community.

They are different to many other charities, Bob ensures that every penny or cent that you donate to Mango Tree Home goes directly to the children in care. Any helpers that visit Haiti all fund their own trips and cover their own expenses as part of their commitment to helping the children. This is a small charity but makes a direct impact without the backing of any of the big names and it is often these small family run charities that get missed.
It takes around £1200 a month to keep the kids safe, well fed and in school. Currently they desperately need to raise funds for building maintenance, power energy sources, medical supplies and a new water supply. (If you are eligible for gift aid please add this to the note as will be claimed at a later date once the application has been processed)
