Weʼve raised £710 to support 50th Bramcote and Wollaton Leukaemia Sponsored Walk

Funded on Monday, 26th August 2019

    Story

On Saturday 11th May 2019, the 50th Anniversary Sponsored Walk for the Bramcote branch of the Nottinghamshire Leukaemia Appeal will take place. Exactly 50 years ago, our parents Len and Judy Horne (Morton) started the first walk as chairman of the branch. Over this period more than £250,000 has been raised and whilst we sadly lost Dad 30 years ago, Mum has continued to play a strong supportive role.

As a celebration of this wonderful achievement, I am travelling to England, along with my partner Carin and sister Linda to take part in this event and to support our wonderful Mum, who is now 90 and will be waving us off. We will also be joined by other members of our family. My son, Chris and wife Cheryl will be walking and I will be pushing the pram of my 4 month old Grandson, Leo. We also have family from Essex and the Cayman Islands participating and Judy's Grand daughter Suzy will be running Mum around to cheer on the walkers.

It would give us all great pleasure if our friends and family could offer a small donation to the Nottinghamshire Leukaemia Appeal, which is now being managed by some lovely people, who themselves have been touched by this awful disease. Many thanks.

For those who are interested in the photo on our page. We believe it was taken in 1974 (five years after the walk started). Female no. 50 was Cathy Horne (son Chris's Mum at 16!). Next right is sister, Linda (aged 21). Next to her on the right is myself (aged 18). Our Dad, Len Horne (who always started these walks in those days), is looking towards me (aged 48). Behind him is Linda's husband George Brown, the father of her daughter Suzy. Apparently Mum (Judy) was working at her shop in Nottingham and there are a couple of my mates next to me.
