Harvey’s Gang help take the fear out of long term medical treatments for young people.

We think that sounds like a good idea so we’re raising funds to help them do more of that, both across the UK and here in the Lothians.

Scientists for a Day

It all started in Western Sussex 2013 when a young boy named Harvey asked what was happening to all the blood they were taking from him. Chief Biomedical Scientist Malcolm Robinson decided it would be a good idea to let Harvey become a Biomedical Scientist for a day. He loved it, and it gave him a much better understanding of everything that was happening to him.

Sadly Harvey is no-longer with us following a 19 month battle with leukemia, but he is remembered as there are now ‘Harvey’s Gangs’ in hospitals all across the UK.

These projects are making a genuine difference to hundreds of young people with long term conditions, helping them understand what is happening to them, giving them a greater understand of their healthcare, and helping to reduce the fear.

What’s the Challenge?

We are taking on the ‘Rust to Rome’ rally challenge and driving a sub-£500 car from Edinburgh to Rome and back again (hopefully!) via the Swiss Alps. What could possibly go wrong?

We are supporting Harvey’s Gang while we do this, and we would really appreciate it if you could chip in a little something to show your support as well.

Monkey Business

The mascot for Harvey’s Gang is a monkey, and we are getting our very own bespoke Monketeer mascot created (Thanks Jane!) There will be plenty of pics along the way for Harvey’s Gang members to follow.
