Two orphans need your help
On 21 April 2019, Easter Sunday, three churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital Colombo were targeted in a series of coordinated terrorist suicide bombings.
Sadly Dharshika, one of the Sri Lankan teachers at St Mary's Street School ( for homeless children) was killed in an explosion at a church in Negombo - her two boys were made orphans. Their father had already died, so they now live with their elderly parents. They need our help.
Dharshika had been a long time volunteer at the Streetchildrens School teaching English. Her husband was a non smoker and non drinker who died from cancer about 2 years ago. Dharshika leaves two boys who both attend the Maris Stellar school in Negombo. It is an all boys Catholic school probably more noted for sporting excellence rather than academic excellence.
The eldest Priyasha is about 16 now and sits his O/Levels this year. The younger Prashan must be about 8 now. Both lads enjoy sports , especially cricket, but are more academically inclined.
On Easter Saturday the boy's met their friends and went to Midnight Mass. Dharshika stayed at home to cook them breakfast for when they returned. Dharshika went to mass on Easter Sunday morning while the boy's stayed at home. Sadly she was caught in the bomb blast and died instantly.
The Sri Lankan government have compensated the boys, but the money (£1200) is locked away in a savings account until they are 18.
We are raising funds to pay for some home-help for the two boys.
We are also supporting the Sea Street homeless people who live amongst the rubbish and rotten vegetables in Negombo market. In the past we have been able to build houses and pay for electricity connection. We have also provided school books and stationary for the children.
By supporting these projects your money goes to stabilising vulnerable children’s lives and helps them escape poverty through education.
Please give what you can.
