Hi, I'm taking part in the Great Stirling Half Marathon to help raise funds for a truly inspiring woman, Claire Bothwell.
Claire, one of my wife's oldest friends, has been diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer which has also spread to her lungs. The cutting edge and experimental treatment that could cure, or perhaps lengthen, Claire's life is extremely expensive and not available to her through the NHS. At 40 years old, Claire is a wife and young mother of 3 children.
The way she has fought this disease, one which has affected us all at some point I'm sure, has been with strength, dignity and good humour. She has also done remarkably well to raise awareness of how cancer affects women under the age of 50 years old.
