Story
It’s almost 22 years ago now since my family and I lost our brother John. This tragic loss has naturally had a tremendous effect on us all. Anybody who knew John knows how much he was loved and how he had the most infectious personality and wicked sense of humour. My brother was still a young man at 30 years of age, recently married with a young son and seemingly with lots to live for, so you can imagine the devastation when we lost him to suicide. All too often the brightest smile hides the deepest pain. My brother John has inspired me to run the Edinburgh half marathon in his memory to raise funds for Brothers in Arms charity. I am fairly new to running, so a half marathon is going to be a massive challenge, but I'm going to work as hard as I can to raise as much awareness and funds as possible. I'll have support from fellow runners on the day in, friend and colleague Garry Anderson and brother in law Thomas McIntosh. Brothers in Arms is Scotland's first men's mental health charity, which is aimed at providing info, support and advice to men of any age, who are down or in crisis and dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under 45 in the UK. I hope everyone who reads this can contribute something because it's very close to my heart and would mean so much to me personally and obviously go a long way to continuous support to an amazing charity. #RunForJohn

5 years agoAbsolutely buzzing about Sunday's achievement and delighted to have raised over £1000 for my chosen charity. It was an experience I’ve never had before and having overcome my hardest physical challenge ever, it’s made all the hard work/training and pain worthwhile couldn’t have done it of course without the motivation and determination of others, none more so than Garry Anderson & Thomas McIntosh who trained & completed EMF with me. I am overwhelmed to have received all your kind donations & support along the way. Thank you it means a lot to me
