Story
In 2013 my mam was diagnosed with small cell singular lung cancer which she recovered from following an operation to remove the tumour and part of her lung. My mam led a normal active life until August 2016 when after suffering from seizures she was diagnosed with lung cancer metastasis to the brain. Which means the same cancer from the lung had spread to my mams brain. Not knowing what to expect my mam recovered following an operation to remove the tumour and received follow up treatment. Again mam enjoyed her life, holidays with her beloved partner Malcom and seeing her grandchildren. This was until August last year 2018! 2 years after the last tumour, cancer was detected again in her brain. This time we were going to go down the route if Stereotactical treatment but it was too late, my mam suffered seizure activity which left her extremely unwell, unable to talk or move her right side. We were told this was it, mam wouldnt be able to mobilise again and have less than 6 months left to live. This was in september last year. My mam proved them wrong and learnt how to talk again, and walked again with support of a walking aid. Fantastic news, we can start the treatment. Yes. So mam was offered the operation this time as she would be at risk if she had the stereo tactical treatment, mam had the operation, which went well but within 24 hours mam was left again not being able to talk or move her right side. Again mam proved how strong and determined she was and began to talk, and walk with a walking aid. Mam spent some time in a local rehab unit but was out for christmas. Mam was able to be independant living on her own but was not able to go out on her own, however my mam thought different, ”if i want to go out i will” Then in February this year we noticed a change, my mam was very tired and weak. Following a check up we were told it was back but this time in the lining if the brain. This time not even the newest chemo oral medication which stops the cancer from growing could help but the consultant tried as he knew how strong and independant my mam had been In the past and he wanted to try. Unfortunately the cancer took hold of my mam and at the time of setting this page up she is still stubborn, determined woman and still with us but she is fading very fast. After looking for services to support my mam I quickly realised that money is an issue, staff are over stretched and even some services are no longer due to cut backs. It is so sad. So myself, Son Paul, his Girlfriend Emily, my Niece Sara and her friend are taking part in Colour Rush Obstacle course in Newcastle on Saturday 15th June. We are not very fit and are dreading it but it will be fun lol. We would love to raise some funds for our local Butterwick Hospice in Stockton where funds are continually being cut and also the local Mac Millian Team that have supported my mam during her fight against Cancer . So please dig deep xxxxxx Thank you very much
On 14th May my mam gained her wings, she was very peaceful and at home where she wanted to be. I can not thank the Macmillian nurses enough so please everyone this is for a great cause and we will be thinking of you mam as we go round the course xxxx
