    Story

    Hey!

My name is Dawn i am a Nursing Assistant at Ivy house school. For anyone that may not of heard of it before, it is an Outstanding complex needs school for children aged 2-19 Years. All the staff and pupils are like one big family, And i feel very grateful to be able to work here.So I feel its my turn to give something back to these amazing children i see smiling each day as they come into school.

Right then the serious stuff.. what have i entered????..... can’t quite believe im saying it, but i am going to attempt to complete an Ultra Marathon.. whats that did i hear you say... well its not a half marathon distance or even a marathon distance....its 50 MILES!!!! Not only is it a 50 mile loop its around the Lake District, which if any of you have visted before its very beautiful. But NOT flat!!

So all of you must be thinking shes one of these crazy people that likes running or entering stupid distances for fun.. but in fact i have only ever done a few 10k runs and a half marathon, well over 10 years ago..... so this is a big leap.. but all worth the pain for the beautiful children at Ivy House School.

The Race is called The Montane Lakeland 50. Its on Saturday 27th July 2019 starting in Delamain finishing in Conniston.(The 1st weekend of the school holidays,so when im broken and bruised i have the full 6 weeks holidays to recover!!)

For me to complete this event i have been granted a charity place, which means the first £100 i raise goes to the events charity of choice, Epic Kidz. This is a small charity in the Lake district that provides to small voluntary groups/schools to help children take part in sport.

Both the charities i am raising money for are really important to me, as i feel ALL children should have access to sport and outdoor activties.

Please please if you would wish to donate any amount of money you can, it will help encouage/provide children at Epic Kidz and Ivy House school to have even more fun and fresh air through new outdoor Learning Opportunities.

    Many Thanks!!!

We had looped back round into Dovedale and thought it was time for pudding so we got a lovely ice cream for our last climb up to the van in Thorpe! It tasted the best ever!! We completed the run in 6 hours 53mins so my personal best yet! Back home legs are feeling slightly stiff but I’m hoping to be on the bike to work tomorrow!

So we got about 15 miles in and hunger was starting to set in. We do run with snacks and water and eat on the go but we thought let’s stop at the pub and have some nice grub. We found this lovely pub so we sat in the beer garden, took our trainers of and had a lovely starter and a Sunday dinner!! Im not sure how we put our kit back on and carried on running after eating all that! Least I know I can definitely cope with the stews and food provided on race day at the check points.. continued.....

I was running on the flat river path them BAMMM I hit the deck the was one single rock sticking up out the path and I’ve somehow managed to fall but spin round and land on my back.. luckily no injuries other than scrap and a bruised leg. The run was great a lot cooler today and on the hills in places a very fresh windy breeze! I faced my fears a lot today and went through ALOT of cow fields (normally I would avoid them at all costs or if I do have to enter a field I would go the longest way round). They didn’t chase me!!!! Yippee! Continued..
