I am a Counsellor and fully qualified practitioner. I also have 3 deaf sisters who now have their own children whom are all deaf too. With my work in helping children, young people and adults with mental health issues, I also spend my spare time in dedicating quality time to my deaf sisters and their children all under age of 8.

We have struggled to get the children the best education from nursery to school. We found they are having to travel over 20-30 miles to get in to a school which helps with deafness. I have patients who are struggling with their deaf children but some of these children also have learning difficulties which makes it harder for them to go to a mainstream school.

There are only 10 deaf schools in the whole of UK and very widely scattered. Statistics are constantly changing. The latest figures showing statistics relating to hearing loss or deafness are as follows: -

Approximately 9 million people in the UK have a hearing loss. This is approximately 19% of the total population or 1 in every 7 persons.
Hearing loss increases sharply with age.
Many people who are born with a profound hearing loss form part of the 'Deaf Community’. They have their own distinctive language (BSL) and culture.
Total of people of all ages in the UK with deafness ranging from mild to profound 9 million (1 in 7 of the population).
Hard of Hearing Mild to Severe Deafness 8.3 million (of which 6.5 million are over 60 years of age) Deafened
Those who became profoundly deaf suddenly or progressively – 123,000 (approximately 11,000 are under 60 years of age)

Ninety percent of deaf children are born to hearing parents.

These children are not normal but special in such a beautiful way that their care and facilities need to be designed and built around their needs. I want to build a school for 3-11 year olds set up like a mainstream school but catered for the deaf and special learning needs.
