Almost 2 years ago on the 16th March 2017, our dear friend’s son, Toby Hambrook-Skinner, passed away after a massive battle with what was a particularly vicious form of cancer. He was just seven months old. When Toby was just a few weeks old, he was diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of cancer and was admitted to Great Ormond St Hospital (Gosh) along with his parents, Verity and Nathan. For 7 months this became their home, whilst battling this terrible disease. Despite every effort and so much fighting from Toby, he lost his battle. Not much is known about Toby's particular form of cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and the treatment was brutal, particularly for someone so young.

Toby was a special boy. He was happy, brave, gentle, loving, stubborn and determined. Such a fighter, as are his incredible parents. Even though we never met Toby, he has had such a profound impact on us, as we follow every step of his journey and he continues to inspire so many people around the world even today.

But more research is needed to help find cures for these particularly rare cancers. Toby’s parents have set up the Toby Hambrook-Skinner Brighter Future Fund to help fund further research and to see a brighter future for children with cancer.
