So, some of you will know that 18 months ago I ran a half marathon (with two others) to raise money for Lowland Search and Rescue teams. I first became aware of them (and the work that they do) through an ongoing missing persons campaign that I became involved in.

Until then, not only had I never run 100 metres (let alone 21000 metres),I had no idea that Lowland Search and Rescue existed; the commitment, extensive and intensive training required and that these professional volunteers were on call 24/7, 365 days per year, giving their own time to help others.

18 months on, I’ve kept running, and I’ve also become a search technician for one of those search and rescue teams, otherwise known as LondonSAR (London Search and Rescue) part of the Lowland Search and Rescue family.

On Saturday 10th March 2019, along with some of my friends from Thamesmead Running Club, I will be running the Virgin Vitality Big Half Marathon, starting at Tower Hill in London and ending by the Cutty Sark in Greenwich (yes, it’s the second half of the Virgin London Marathon route). Its 21k (another 21,000 metres) and I’m hoping to raise money for LondonSAR.

We are a newly operational team, fully committed to supporting the metropolitan police (and our neighbouring search and rescue teams) in the search for high risk and vulnerable missing people, in and around the whole of the London area.

As a new team, we have lots of equipment that would help us to do our job to an even better standard, and anything that I can raise will be used towards buying some of that equipment and supporting the work that we do.
