    Story

Oustas Wuyeh Njie is one of the most selfless, generous and charitable people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. He is also one of the poorest people but despite that he has opened his home to over 30 orphans whom he provides for with his own family.

Mr Njie is also the headteacher of Darul Akram Orphan School where over one hundred orphans are able to go to school without paying fees and they learn alongside the other pupils. These children would not be able to learn without his dedication and determination to provide them with an education.

This all comes a cost; his and his family’s self sacrifice but also money. His home needs extending and repairing. The school has been so successful it has now grown from a nursery to a primary and now into a secondary school, but although they have had land donated for all of this they need the funds to carry out the building work.

To date the secondary school is built with a roof, doors, windows, a wall and gate. Each room has a blackboard and chairs and tables. The walls need to be plastered and painted, and the floors need to be concreted and smoothed. The secondary school also needs a water supply and toilets. Once there is water additional funds could be raised by growing vegetables. We also need to keep paying the teachers who cannot survive as volunteers!

Happy New Decade to all of our supporters and to everyone at Daral Akram Orphan School. Wishing you all health, wealth and of course happiness. Thank you to everyone who has donated or supported in any way. I’m going to withdraw funds and pass on the money to Mr Njie. I will endeavour to post updates and a message from Mr Njie... maybe on Facebook as this will close?!

It’s all safe now at the secondary school with the sturdy metal doors and shutters on the school office. It will be used to store all school equipment and stationary out of hours.

Thank you all! I really appreciate your kindness and generosity. I will let Mr Njie know. ALNS raised enough money for the windows and doors - here’s some photos.
