Story
Hello please can you help my mum.
mum was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer almost two years ago. It seems hard to think back to the time before diagnosis when everything was fine. Initially mum thought that she had a grumbling appendix and didn't think much of it but when she was diagnosed not just with cancer but with an incurable cancer my world fell apart. I cannot imagine my life without my mum. She is my rock, my best friend. Over the past two years mum has been through so much. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy again after a break of just a year. She has had two lots of major surgery. All of this time she has tried to be positive and strong for me, my brother and the wider family. It hurts so much to think that mum won't be around and isn't going to live to a ripe old age. I see elderly ladies with their daughters and thought that this would be mum and I. Now I know that it's not going to happen. Then I read about breakthroughs in the paper and there is hope. The latest is immunotherapy for ovarian cancer. This drug extends the time between treatments by up to two years but it isn't available on the NHS. Mum would need it as soon as her current chemotherapy finishes which is in September. I am trying to raise enough for a years treatment which is about £50,000 or £1,000 per week. The hope then is that if it was successful it would become available on the NHS and give other women in mums position a chance to extend their lives and who knows then benefit from further breakthroughs. I need to give mum a chance, to feel that I did everything that I could. She is a tough cookie and I want her to be around for a lot longer. Ovarian cancer kills thousands of women every year. I don't want mum to be just another statistic.
thank you
Fern
