Story
This is the time of year when being homeless is even more daunting. It`s cold and fast approaching Christmas, when family connections and the support of good friends become so much more apparent. For the homeless this is a time of nostalgia for those they can`t reach. This is a cold and very lonely period for anybody having to lay themselves on cold, wet surfaces at night with no proper insulation or food, or company. It has always been an issue that is close to my heart and if I could help in any way, I have always tried to offer it as many of us do. I see young people who are under the mental health umbrella sleeping rough in our town, which has recently be revamped. They don`t fit in with the council`s idea of trying to encourage outsiders to generate more wealth. I find it abhorrent that so much money got put into our recent visit from the queen, whilst the young guy who regularly camps outside McDonalds got unceremoniously moved on because he did not fit their remit.
These people who wander aimlessly around with no money or hope for a brighter future are our society members. People who for one reason or another became outcast. Each day that ticks by brings new problems their way, as if not feeling safe and warm didn`t hold enough. There are health issues, both physical and mental, the feeling of very low self worth and of course loneliness. Problems concerning looking after their personal hygiene, trying to look for work, or just battling with our local council for help with private rents and the financial support that most of us take for granted. It`s all so much harder to achieve when your moral is low.
This is the time when the local churches here in Bracknell offer their support for the next 4 months during the winter. They feed the homeless and allow them the sanctuary and warmth they need but as with everything comes a price. I am looking to raise as much money as possible to be able to support the local churches in their quest to help our homeless this year. They need money to fund the food, the bedding, maybe toiletries, and a touch of luxury for Christmas which is always an extremely difficult time for people who have nowhere to go. Please give any amount you can afford to brighten up Christmas this year for one of our most vulnerable groups of people.
Thank you advance for caring enough to either share or donate to this cause. It`s a very worthy one. Please don`t forget the people who deserve our love our support.
