Story
A cardiac arrest can happen to anyone at any age although the risk does increase as we get older. There are over 30,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests each year in the South West the average survival rate is 8%. Early CPR and access to an AED (Defibrillator) increase the chance of survival massively as much as 75% in the first few minutes. South West Ambulance gold standard would be to fit an AED every 200 metres. Figures supplied to me last year stated that where no community defib was brought to the patient survival rate was 9%, but where a community defib was brought to a patient the survival rate was 20% these figures are from 2015 - 2017.
Our aim is to apply for "The National Lottery Community Fund" where if our application is successful we will be in a position hopefully to install one defibrillator outside our local shops & depending on funding a further 2 defibs throughout Glenholt.
We already have £1,000 in donations from our local Moor View Councillors Maddi Bridgeman & Nick Kelly who we are truly grateful to.
Now its our turn to start fund raising through sponsorship, donations, coffee mornings, coach trips, raffles & possibly a "Tea Dance" coming up in the next couple of months or any suggestions you the residents & shop owners can come up with.
Please help us save lives, you never know it could be one of us that needs a defib, its to late to say if only!
