Chidamoyo Christian Hospital is a small rural hospital in NW Zimbabwe. The hospital has about 100 beds and provides patients with medical and surgical care, as well as maternity, paediatric and outpatient services. The hospital is stretched due to limited funding and thousands of patients travelling up to 100km every year to receive care.

In July 2019, the three of us, Dhiviya, Sophie and Naomi, are heading out to Chidamoyo for our elective. We will be volunteering alongside the doctors and nursing staff, and doing our utmost best to help and support them in any way we can. We will be helping practically on ward rounds, in theatre and in clinics.

The hospital has asked us to bring some equipment with us to support their work in Chidamoyo. At the moment, they are most in need of an ECG machine and an HbA1c machine, plus the gel, paper and testing reagent – supplies that we may take for granted here in the UK but are greatly needed by the hospital. So far, we have raised £1200 from bursaries but more is needed to cover the costs.

Any donation, no matter how big or small, will be hugely appreciated and will go towards making a huge difference to patients’ lives.
