On 24th March 2019 I will be taking part in Hastings Half Marathon. I have decided to raise funds for a cause that is very close to my heart.

In May 2015 my mum had a stroke. She was unable to talk, walk and move the left side of her body. She had thrombosis which dispersed the clot but this caused a small bleed.
Nothing was going to get in the way of mum's determination to dance with my sister at her wedding the following year.
Mum has had amazing support from the Stroke association and she is now able to walk and use her left side well... We can't stop her from talking!
She started attending the singing group which has really helped her vocal chords and has also been a positive experience to be able to talk to others in her situation.

Here is a bit about BOSS...

The Befrienders of the Stroke Singing Group (1066) - BOSS, is a support and befriending group set up by volunteers affiliated to the Stroke Association. The group mainly supports the work of the popular choir.

We aim to raise funds to ensure the continuation of the choir and establish a support and befriending group to run alongside this. Stroke survivors and carers who attend the groups will experience friendship and support. They will be able to take part in various activities and share conversation over a cup of tea and a biscuit.

Those who come to the choir will have the opportunity of working with an experienced choir leader to share in singing popular tunes. We have already performed a concert at the local stroke unit.

Choirs have been shown to have a positive effect on the progress of stroke survivors. This is definitely true for our members.
