Weʼve raised £120 to Allow life saving heart surgery for Dougie our much adored 11 month old French Bulldog

    Story

Dougie is our much adored French bulldog. He was diagnosed with a stage 2 heart murmur as a young puppy but was happy & healthy & showing no signs of illness. A few months ago he collapsed & we rushed him to our vet. After further tests he was diagnosed with an enlarged right ventricle & placed on medication to treat heart failure. Our insurance company are unable to cover him as he was diagnosed with a heart murmur within two weeks of policy set up. A subsequent long awaited referral to see a specialist has now revealed he is in advanced heart failure due to an extremely narrow pulmonary artery which is so very narrow the specialist vet is unable to undertake lifesaving pulmonic stenosis (a balloon placed in the artery to widen) which would allow him to be well again. Our only option now is for a specialist heart surgeon in London to perform a critical heart bypass which will allow Dougie the full, happy, contented life he truly deserves. This surgery costs £10,000. We have exhausted all of our funds over the past few months between medications, veterinary appointments, specialist appointments etc. Without this pioneering surgery the outlook is heartbreakingly bleak. We are appealing for help to allow our boy at least a fighting chance at life. Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

As Dougie’s heart issues were so very complex I have donated his beautiful wee heart to the University of Glasgow veterinary school to allow further crucial research to help other Dougie’s. I would like to keep his page open in Dougie’s memory with all donations now being passed on to The University of Glasgow cardiology team to help fund pioneering new treatments for animals with cardiac issues. Thank you all so much for your kindness.

It is with tears & sadness I post this update. After being at the Royal Veterinary College in Glasgow since Wednesday for further assessment & treatment I received a call this morning to say our beautiful wonder boy Dougie had passed away unexpectedly at 8am. He had been well at 6am cuddle time, had eaten, played & was full of nonsense as per his usual self, had been resting at 7am but had difficulties shortly after & sadly the team were unable to save him. He passed around 8am this morning.
