    Story

THE BIGGEST monsoon to hit the Indian region of Kerala in nearly a century has claimed over 330 lives so far, as forecasters predict more extreme weather and rain will hit the region, prompting further fears from the state minister of more fatalities with over 300,000 people already displaced by flooding.

35 out of 42 dams in the state were opened for the first time in history and all five gates of the Cheruthoni Dam were opened at the same time after a gap of 26 years. 12 (out of 14) districts continue to remain on RED alert.

My home town is Mulanthuruthy, a south-eastern suburb in Ernakulam district. Relief efforts from State and Central administration will struggle to reach into towns with limited / no connectivity. Rescue operations have their base in cities which are no longer connected to the outside world.

52 rescue teams of central forces including units of the Indian Army and the Indian Navy are assisting the civilian administration in rescue work and restoration. In addition to the 10 teams from National Disaster Response Force, 4 additional teams were airlifted from neighbouring states to assist the Ernakulam district administration.

With volunteers leading operations at relief camps, we need food, drinking water, clean clothes, medicines, sanitary napkins, blankets and toiletries. The rescue operations need more boats for reaching out to people stranded on their rooftops and getting them safely to the relief camps.

Your donation will go towards rescue operations based out of relief camps in Mulanthuruthy and surrounding areas. Please spread the word. Thank you for your time and support. Every little helps!
