In the South Hebron Hills (Masafer Yatta), located in the southern parts of the West Bank, resources are scarce. The residents of villages such as Susiya, Umm al-Khair and Sha'b Albutum, suffer from a lack of basic infrastructure, water and electricity shortages, settler violence and pending demolition orders. Most families sustain themselves on farming and shepherding, as the opportunities of attaining a university education are impeded by the inability to meet tuition requirements.

Due to the conservative culture of these villages, it can be particularly difficult for young women to attend university. Many girls marry and have children at a young age and are not able to build a career of their own. By helping young women to attend university, you empower them by helping to prevent early marriage and childbearing and to develop a new gender norm by which future generations of young women can be inspired.

This project aims to help 16 students, 13 of whom are women. Sending all 16 students to university for one semester requires approx. £5000. H.I.R.N. aims to provide 70% the funding for each student. The preliminary target is set at £1000, which serves as a starting point from which a number of students are able to continue or complete their studies.
