    Story

“Children in Lincolnshire have worse than average levels of obesity” according to the 2014 Child Health Profile for Lincolnshire - The World Health Organisation says children may anticipate increased risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and stroke, if nothing is done.

The hard facts: 2013/14, data from Public Health England (2015) “National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) Local Authority Profile” identified 27.1% of Reception children in South Holland Lincolnshire as overweight, 12.5% of whom were obese, close to the 14.4% for the worst in England. By Year 6, 35.4% were overweight, and 19.5% of these were obese.

By creating a purpose built centre Glen Park, Surfleet, the Educating Eaters Project will create an alliance with planned new Nursery planned for the site and will work with parents/carers and professionals to change eating and behaviour patterns that lead to children being overweight/obese. ‘Educating Eaters’ accommodates both behaviour change and an educational approach to health promotion. Our dream is empower parents/carers of children aged 0 – 5 years to provide healthier meals and better nutrition for their families thus reducing future prevalence of obesity at Reception age and giving them a healthier future.
