Story
From March to May 2019, we will be running just over 100km as a family to raise money for Super Seraph vs Neuroblastoma.
Seraph is a few months younger than our youngest child Nina. We first met Seraph and his mum Cass via playgroup in our local town of Hitchin. We had as much in common as many parents of young babies: mainly worries around food, sleep and nappies. In January 2018 however our stories diverged as Seraph was diagnosed with High Risk Neuroblastoma.
Since then Seraph has been through chemo, High Dose Chemo with Stem Cell Transplant, Radiotherapy and Immunotherapy. This is everything the NHS is able to offer for this aggressive childhood cancer. Neuroblastoma is a relapse disease and once children relapse, there is a 1 in 10 chance of survival. Seraph's best chance of sustainable recovery is the Bivalent Vaccine, which they offer at MSK, New York, only. This vaccine is aimed at preventing relapse, but it's incredibly expensive. His family are currently raising funds to enable Seraph to receive this vaccine this summer. They need to raise £250,000.
So that's where the idea for our challenge came in, a way for us to try to support Seraph's family to raise this money. We love to run! Mark and Katie run as often as we can: usually a regular 5km after work and the occasional 10km race for Katie, and for Mark any available opportunity - he's entered races up to Marathon level in the past. We seem to have passed a bit of a love for running onto our two kids too and they're always keen to join us for a run around the block or park. This fundraising effort is a real challenge for us all though: it will be Mark's first Ultra Marathon (50km), Katie's first half marathon (21km) and Noah & Nina's first 5km. And to get to that magic 100km Katie will be running an extra 10km race.
Confirmed runs are as follows: 4th May Letchworth Parkrun (5km each), 11th May Dulux Revolution Trails Challenge (Ultra and Half Marathons) and the Hitchin 10km for Katie on 19th May.
Please help us support Seraph and his family to raise the huge amount of money needed to give Seraph the best chance he can have.

All funds raised through our challenge will be given as a single donation to Seraph's main fundraising page via Solving Kids Cancer.
