Efua Sey Cultural Academy is an organisation that provides breakfast, after-school and holiday clubs for children and young people of all abilities and disabilities including children with severe learning difficulties with complex needs and others on the Autistic Spectrum in West Essex area. It has been operating from Harlow since 2006 and was supported directly by the Local Authority from 2009 to 2015. From 2015 to 2016 the Local Authority supported the children with disabilities through 4children. From 2016 to 2017 it was supported through Action for Children. Between 2015 and 2017, the funding to support the children with disabilities was reduced considerably and from 2017 this funding was stopped abruptly leaving families who have children with disabilities with virtually no support to regularly access the services that even their doctors had confirmed as being a very good therapy in the development of the children with disability. In addition to that Ofsted is threatening to close the services to children who are under the age of 8 years without a tangible reason other than the excuse that the organisation has changed its premises. Parents are stressed over the threats and have written letters to Ofsted and the Local Authority pleading with them to help save the service as there is nowhere else for them to take their children but their pleas have all been ignored. The issue is in court and £2,000 legal fee deposit is the cheapest quote that has been found to contest the reason for the closure. We need this help urgently.
