    Story

Imogen was a healthy happy 4 year old until she started feeling ill in December. At first we thought she had a bug she had caught at her nursery (st Andrews)as there was so much on the go. After more than a week mum Claire decided to take her to the doctors. Imogen was complaining of tummy ache and some days she was finding it hard to walk. She was seen and docs put it down to a water infection. A few days later Imogen was screaming in pain with her tummy, she was complaining of sore legs, sore shoulder and she was ghostly white. A trip to sick kids and they also diagnosed her with a water infection. 3 days later things were no better so another trip into sick kids (10th Jan). She had a abdominal scan which showed an enlarged spleen. Docs couldn’t explain why her spleen was so big and arranged to scan her again in 6 weeks and she was discharged. Alarm bells were ringing for us as her sister Lacey was diagnosed with Acute myeloid leukemia in 2011 aged 7 months. A lot of Imogen’s symptoms were similar. A few more trips back to Docs with weight loss, bruising a bad cough and severe paleness then on valentines day she was finally admitted to Aberdeen again as mum Claire was very worried. The doctors thought Claire was being over anxious but we all knew there was something far wrong. That night blood tests were done and at 2am we got the devastating news that Imogen had Acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Claire & Michaels two girls now both had leukemia, Lacey nearly 8 years ago and Imogen Feb this year. It was the worst news we could’ve got.

Claire & Michael are doing amazing by Imogen considering its their second child with cancer and she couldn’t get better care givers. Claire has had to stop work to care for Imogen and Michael has had to cut back his hours as Imogen spends so much time in hospital. Her chemo treatment will last approximately 3 years in total with more aggressive chemo up till the end of November. The intense chemo means Imogen is isolated most of the time as she has no immune system and the slightest illness can make her very ill.

Imogen passes the time playing with her LOL dolls, they are her favourite toys. Sister Lacey plays with her when at home as Imogen has hardly no other child contact apart from her cousins.

She is due to start school in August but things will get put on hold until she is well enough to start attending.

She is such an inspiration.. always a smile regardless! She has a huge battle ahead of her but so far she is amazing us with her courage! Couldn’t be prouder of her
