In 2016 our family was hit with the devastating news my son on his 16th birthday was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. Matt was a young healthy full of life teenager who had worked hard to do his gcse‘s to progress with bis dream of becoming a firefighter in the Raf.

As he was 16 he was put on a Adults Cancer ward, yes he could have gone to the specialist teenage hospital but the closest ones were an 1 1/2 hours away and he didnt want to travel while feeling so ill. That said our local hospital was great they alongside the teenage cancer trust were attempting to make things a little better on the ward with a more brighter area to sit and a xbox to play.

In April 2017 Matthew lost his battle to cancer at the Donna Louise trust, this hospice made the last few days, just a little more copeable, from the first cuppa they made us, to making sure as a family we were fed had a place to sleep and support was and still is on hand.

Matthews younger sister wants to carry on his legacy of helping others with her own challenge of joining her school on a expidition to Swaziland to help a community in July 2018 a challenge made harder through grief and a determination to support others.
