Camps International - volunteering trip to Peru 2019

The total cost of this trip is £4400 and I’m 90% of the way there through a combination of car boot sales, selling toys on Ebay, cake stalls, saving my Christmas and Birthday money and badgering local companies for donations.

To get the last £500 I am going to take on the Thee Peaks Challenge in the Easter Schools Holidays. This will be a real physical challenge and I would be so grateful for all the sponsorship I can get to spur me on.

Why am I doing this? Over 50% of the rural communities in Peru live below the poverty line. This expedition will focus on improving the quality of life for many Peruvian communities through raising educational standards and living conditions, plus assisting with wildlife conservation to help preserve biodiversity and protect vulnerable habitats.

At a personal level it will also help me develop some valuable life lessons and skills, including self confidence, leadership, personal organisation and team working. I’m particularly keen to develop a better appreciation of what I’m lucky to have (and maybe take for granted), plus what strengths and values I can learn from others who live in a very different way to me.

This experience in Peru will be different to anything I’ve ever done before and I’m looking forward to it with a mix of excitement and nervousness. The bugs and insects will be a particular challenge I think!
