Weʼve raised £1,345 to Brighton Ronald McDonald House Charity and KSS Neonatal Transfer Service

Funded on Monday, 14th October 2019

    Story

We're getting married on 7th September 2019 and since we've been living together for over 4 years we already have a toaster, a microwave, an extremely under-utilised ironing board and a fondue set gathering dust in the attic, so instead, we've decided to raise some more money for charity.

Two places that really helped Harry make it from 12 week early premature baby to a cheese-munching, chocolate-loving, Batman-obsessed toddler.

First, 'Ronald McDonald House Charity - Brighton', where we stayed for 5 weeks right after Harry was born. It's free of charge for families so they can stay close to hospital and visit their children as often and as easily as they want. In Brighton there are two locations, Abbey Road and actually within The Royal Alexandra Hospital, which is where we stayed. Both are excellent facilities, which can not only house parents but also siblings as JJ stayed with us on occasion too. This charity is what those spare change boxes at the McDonalds tills and drive-thru's fund whilst you're stocking up on Big Macs and strawberry milkshakes.

Secondly, 'Kent, Surrey and Sussex Neonatal Transfer Service (KSS)', is the ambulance service that transfers premature babies from hospital to hospital in the South East. As soon as Harry was born in Worthing he had to be transferred that same night to the Trevor Mann Unit in Brighton, then 3 weeks later he was transferred from Brighton to Southampton for a PDA ligation operation - Harry had to be paralysed for the trip in an incubator - then back to Brighton the next day, before finally being transported back to Worthing hospital for 7 weeks when he was finally allowed home - 12 weeks after being born.

Below is Harry, on the day he was born, in the incubator about to be moved into the Neo-Natal transport ambulance to be taken to the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton. This is also the first time Claire saw Harry, about 7 hours later.

Without Ronald McDonald House we would've had to commute from Worthing to Brighton every day or stayed in a B&B.

Without the neo-natal ambulance transfer service and the excellent paramedics, who knows where we'd be.

So please don't buy us anything, honestly, just donate here. Any amount is great. The target is just because we had to put one in, there is no target really. When we get back from our honeymoon we'll be splitting the amount raised 50/50 between both charities.

Thank you from all of us.
