”It’s Cancer” - two words you never want to hear, unimaginable words when paying reference to your cheeky, full of life, happy 2 year old. Rhabdomyosarcoma a soft tissue cancer that comes with aggression. Elsa endured the chemotherapy and Proton Beam treatment with true Elsa style gusto. Two years free of this vile disease, regular checks and scans all become part of life but the one thing we weren’t prepared for was to hear those dreaded two words again “It’s cancer”. So here we are, with a now five year old, starting the gruelling treatment for a second time, albeit a stronger set of drugs tearing through her little body in the hope of beating this again. There is some good news, the cancer hasn’t spread and is contained in the 6 x 7 x 8cm tumour that envelopes her right jaw. However, second time around we may not be quite as fortunate with what treatment will be offered. Proton beam therapy aims radiation direct to the tumour site, therefore reducing the numerous possible side effects of standard radiotherapy. At the moment, we are told our Elsa won’t qualify for a second round of Proton, with funding being part of the decision making. We are currently looking at alternative treatments and future plans to avoid this happening again. Please help us to make this happen and get the best possible outcome for our little fighter, she deserves a break.
