Being visually impaired has never affected me personally in my life so far but when you witness someone you love losing their sight and the struggles they are battling each day really is heart rending.  A couple of months back my nan had an appointment qt Specsavers and the hospital for her vision to be checked over and she received the worst news that she wouldn't even wish upon her worst enemy. The staff did the usual checks upon my nan's eyes and she found out that she is definitely going to go blind at some point in her life which has caused huge distress and fear to my nan and to even write this makes me tear up as I love my nan stacks and to know that at some point she is going to suffer and not enjoy life like she would do normally makes me feel useless!  For her this means that she wouldn't be able to go out shopping and look at the clothes she feels comfortable in and not only that her luxuries would come to an end, due to the fact that she wouldn't be able to see me and my family being happy and enjoying life and she has told me that she feels like her daily routines and interaction with other people would vanish completely. My goal is something quite big as my nan is allergic to animal fur/hair and she cannot use a guide dog to help her when she does go blind because it affects her chest and she suffers with multiple health issues and is on a lot of medication for her health and she hasn't had much luck with medication and neither.  Another thing that requires mentioning is that my nan cannot use a white stick either as one she has had quite a few mild and serious strokes, two she is severely disabled and three she has arthritis severe too. My goal is to be able to raise funds to buy her one of the most powerfulest pieces of equipment for my nan called the 'OrCam' as I'm pretty certain this piece of equipment would have such an impact of positivity on my nan, her health and everyday living as all I want is nothing but the best for her.
