    Story

Hedgehogs are an endangered animal in the UK , estimates show that in 1950 there may have been as many as 36.5 million hedgehogs in the UK. In 1995 it was estimated that there were 1,550,000 hedgehogs in the UK, and there is evidence that numbers have continued to fall steeply since then. Since the year 2000 rural populations of hedgehogs have fallen by a half and urban populations by a third.

Hedgehog care and rehab Plymouth takes in sick and injured hedgehogs and looks after them so that they might be re-released back into the wild and supports the local population of hedgehogs, helping to save the animal from extinction. Over the last year the charity released 86 hedgehogs back into the wild and 1000 since the foundation of the charity. It has also dealt with many many calls about sick and injured hedgehogs and has found room for the hedgehogs at other animal hospitals or carers due to being at capacity. The care for the hedgehogs can be expensive and lengthy and we look to support the charity in its capacity to look after this quintessential British garden guests.

The other half of the money will be donated to the club over the last few years the club has had a roller coaster time that almost lead to its closure a few years ago, but due to diligent work of the committee the club has bounce back and now faces a new challenge, lack of equipment. Lots of the equipment held by the club is outdated and is in need of replacement, so we can accommodate the new members into our growing club, And continue to grow the sport of fencing within the university. This money will mainly be used to purchase new jackets and swords that will be used for years to come
