Weʼve raised £6,130 to Help Emma and Theo create many happy memories together by raising fund to help Emma get much needed immunotherapy, she cannot get on the NHS

Funded on Thursday, 6th June 2019

    Story

Myself and my brother Michael are taking part in a white collar boxing match and will be fighting against each other at Club Republic in Leicester on March 9th 2019 commenting at 4pm.

You may find it a bit strange that two brothers want to fight against each other but we both have a love for the sport and we both want to support our friend Emma Shaw who we have known for many years, since when we were at school together.

Emma is also fighting. She’s fighting cancer for the second time since March 2017 when she was told that she had triple negative breast cancer. Emma then underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy and in November 2017 was given the all clear and was told to go and enjoy her life, which she did.....Emma had been a single mum for five years and fought her primary cancer on her own but got her strength to get through it for the sake of her son, Theo.

Things were looking good, Emma finally found her happiness with her partner Darren who she met in February last year and Theo, aged 8, has been signed for the Leicester City Academy! So as you can imagine, she is a very proud mummy.

After returning from their first holiday abroad together, Emma was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and during her three week stay in hospital was told that the cancer had spread to her liver, spleen and her back. Emma’s life came crashing down on this day, September 1st 2018, and has been fighting between a very dark place and frantically researching for hope ever since. This cancer is the most aggressive type and relies solely on chemotherapy and trialled drugs as there are currently no licensed drugs to treat this “incurable” cancer. Emma just cannot accept this and is trying to remain focussed with her vision of seeing her son walk out onto the pitch as a professional footballer when he is 18 however, although she doesn’t want to be a statistic, the survival rate is only 12-18 months once this type of cancer has spread like Emma’s has.

After extensive research Emma is now taking supplements, doing other therapy alongside her chemo and is fundraising for private immunotherapy as unfortunately it hasn’t yet been licensed for breast cancer. The cost of this treatment will range between £8,000 to £10,000 every four weeks and if this treatment shows signs that it is working, then Emma will need to be on it for two years, meaning 24 infusions.

If successful, immunotherapy is designed to carry on working once treatment has finished, which will prolong her life to make more memories with Darren and Theo but as it isn’t licensed, there are no statistics to show how long it will work for, of course, Emma hopes that it’ll be forever!!

We have therefore set up this page for any donations to be made to just giving for this much needed treatment. The company that I work for, Stannah Lifts, have very kindly offered to match the total amount that we make on this event.

please help by donating as little or as much as you can to help Emma get this treatment so she can build as many memories with Theo as possible.

Hi all, a massive thank you to you all for helping us raise this great amount for Emma. Please keep sharing this to help us get closer to the £1000 target, which will be matched by the company I work for. If we reach this target that is one treatment for Emma. Please take the time to see the videos of my brother and I training (were the ones in head guards) on my instagram page, to see that we are putting the effort in to hopefully warrant your donations, thank you again, Steve and Mike
