Story
IBK Initiatives is a charity that is very close to my family - it was set up by my lovely Aunty Pippa after her son who had severe disabilities passed away in 1998.
IBK works across Sheffield helping young adults with disabilities and their families. As part of this, I volunteer at a weekly dance class for some of the young adults and their families. The classes are inclusive and taught by Roxanne who is a dance therapist and an amazing teacher. We do ballet and contemporary, and each classes finishes with improvisation. Volunteering at the dance classes has been one of the most amazing things I have done whilst in Sheffield, I have learnt so much from the young adults and it has really showed me how important it is to break down barriers for those with disabilities.
I will be running the Sheffield Half Marathon on the 14th April to raise money for the IBK dance classes. Until recently, the classes were free to attend however, there is now a small cost each week to cover room hire. Hopefully whatever is raised will be able to pay for the room hire for a few months and also to buy some equipment for the classes.
I feel so lucky to have got involved in the classes and I know the money that is donated will be so appreciated by everyone involved in IBK dance. Find out more about the amazing things that IBK do here: www.ibkinitiatives.com/Home
