Story
East Kent Foot Care are working together with Action on Homelessness in Folkestone to provide a foot care service this winter period with the aim of turning forgotten feet into ‘happy’ feet.
East Kent Foot Care provides a comprehensive foot care service in to clients both through clinics and domiciliary settings within the areas of Folkestone, Hythe and the surrounding villages. We have come together to work alongside Action on Homelessness in Folkestone to extend this provision to aid homeless people who would like to take advantage of this provision.
East Kent Foot Care will be running drop in services over the winter period located in Folkestone where Action for Homelessness in Folkestone convene to provide their current services.
Homeless people needless, to say are on their feet in all weathers. With this in mind they can encounter problems such as blisters, calluses, long and sometimes fungal nails. Skin infections and often conditions triggered by prolonged wet conditions as well as wounds. Anyone with any sort of infections will be referred to a local GP for medication or creams.
Rain in particular, affects homeless people long after it stops, as there is nowhere for them to dry shoes and socks, and so wet foot wear stays on resulting in macerated foot conditions which can become infected and malodorous.
East Kent Foot care are proud to be able to offer our expertise to this initiative and have received donations of long, warm socks that we can give to the people wanting to use this provision in the coming months. We are now urgently appealing for donations to enable us to purchase podiatry supplies to carry out the work and also look to provide this service over a longer period and not just over the winter months.
