We are raising the initial funds needed to start a new charity called Freedom From Fossil Fuels. We need to raise £5000 over the next year and our journey begins here with the Elsecar half marathon. The racers will be: Mary Elizabeth Webb, Abbie Robson and Adam Carroll.

So who are we and what are we planning to do?

Freedom From Fossil Fuels is an aspiring charity dedicated to reducing the world's fossil fuel consumption through the use of simple technology that already exists. The world is currently in the midst of an energy crisis whereby we are consuming more energy than the planet can create. Our CO2 output is leading to climate change which, as stated by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, "could push the world onto an irreversible path of extreme warming" in just 12 years.

The government is not doing enough to solve our energy crisis, thus freedom from fossil fuels is going to do something about it. We have simple technology that will greatly reduce our fossil fuel consumption and can be implemented relatively easily. This technology works on the basic principle of collecting the waste heat from Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) and converting it into usable energy. Over 60% of the energy from the fuel used to power the typical ICE is wasted through heat-loss and other inefficiencies, so essentially when you put £1 in your car, 60 pence of it is wasted, which is both environmentally and economically damaging. Once our charity is up and running, we will introduce these simple technologies and show the world that our excessive fossil fuel consumption is not only unnecessary and completely avoidable, but that these technologies provide unrivalled socio-economic benefits too. Within these ideas lie, what I believe, to be our greatest chance of liberation from fossil fuels and the ever-tightening grip of climate change.
