I am running the ABP Southampton half Marathon on the 5th May 2019.

I am running in support of a charity close to my heart. SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers) Wessex, fondly know as The Bloodrunners. https://servwessex.org.uk. I have chosen this non-profit charity because of all the incredible work they do. I think the volunteers are amazing giving up their spare time, day and night and in all weather conditions to provide this service free of charge to the NHS in Hampshire, South Wiltshire and Dorset, including Southampton General Hospital and the Princess Anne Milk Bank.

The team provide an out of hours service to transport Blood, Platelets, Urgent medical samples and equipment free of charge. They also provide a continuous service to re-supply the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance with the blood and plasma they carry. During the day SERV Wessex offer an ad hoc service to transport frozen human baby milk to the Neonatal Hospitals in their area of operation.

Last year the volunteers did over 1600 jobs and covered over 136,000 miles on duty. 72% of that mileage was covered by the volunteers using their own vehicles and covering all their own fuel and insurance costs as the charity currently only have a small fleet of marked vehicles. This service saves the NHS a significant amount of money each year which can be spent on providing other services within the NHS. I'd love to raise some money to support some of these costs so the fleet can continue providing this amazing service.
