Sadly, George Hessay, 15, took his own life on the 10th May 2017. Members of the community have gathered around a particular tree which has become a memorial to George, surrounded by flowers, photographs and messages. Many people go to that tree as a sign of respect, therefore we would like to set up a circular bench surrounding it. After attending the Rawcliffe Parish Council meeting tonight, I am pleased to announce that the plaques will be allowed. We have made an agreement to have a circular bench around the tree, which has been kindly donated by the Rawcliffe History Club. Together, as a community, we will fundraise for two plaques, one on either side of the circular bench. Any additional funds raised will be donated to George's family.
