Story
After first being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer back in 2012, Dad/Colin has shown nothing but strength, determination and positivity. He‘s undergone a testing round of radiotherapy followed by an extensive round of chemotherapy just a few years later. Now, unfortunately, we’re looking at another marathon round of treatment which is where we need your help. As a challenge, all four of us ‘kids’ Polly, Harry, Betty and Dot will be taking on our own Marathon in Liverpool on May 26th. Although the physical hurdles and the mental blocks experienced during this race will never compare, we feel this is the least we can do.
We’re all absolutely speechless. To say we’ve hit our initial target of £2000 with 4 months to go is so unbelievably flattering and we cannot say thank you enough. Now because of this, we’re going to raise our target to £5000 to allow for an even bigger donation to Prostate Cancer UK, in hope to eventually prevent this disease from affecting so many others. Please help by donating whatever you can, no amount is too small. All the thanks from P, H, B & D xxx
From Colin:
To all those of you who have been so amazing as to contribute to this cause, may I say just how humble and grateful I am for all your contributions. It’s not just the finance - although that is truly wonderful - it is also the words of love and support that have come through to us all which are just as valuable.
Be assured that all your contributions will go towards treatment, and research into new treatments, for one of the biggest killers of men - prostate cancer.
With Polly, Harry, Betty and Dot all challenging themselves at this event, I thought I’d set them a target to get close (and hopefully beat) the time I did in my only marathon run some 16 years ago !
Thank you again for all your help and support - it really means so much to us all.
Another note:
Well, this response just gets more and more amazing.
It doesn’t seem 5 minutes since we upped our fundraising target to £5k.
And now you wonderful people have only gone and blown that out of the water just a matter of a few weeks since we set this up in the first place.
So, we’ve decided not to set another ‘target’ - other than to raise as much as we possibly can between now and the end of May 2019 - for research into the treatment of prostate cancer (Prostate Cancer UK).
Your contributions will help fund the really detailed medical research that’s going on into this regrettably all-too-prevalent disease of men - and help others benefit from the output of this research in the future.
So, please give whatever you feel able - P,H,B and D are all training hard for the big day at the end of May. Four siblings running in the same event might be a little unusual !
Meanwhile, I am continuing with my treatment confident that the clinical specialists responsible for my care are working to provide me with the best possible outcome.
Your support - kind words, finance and concern are appreciated so much by us all.
Xxxx

5 years agoIt’s with great sadness that we won’t be able to participate in the Marathon this Sunday. Unfortunately Dad’s condition has deteriorated rapidly so we’ll be spending the last few days with him here in Sheffield. Thank you so much for your kind donations, they gave him such a boost and will be given to Prostate Cancer UK to continue funding research. Regrettably, Dad’s life has been cut way too short but if you’d like to leave a message, we will be happy to read it to him. Much love, Polly, Harry, Betty & Dot xxxx
