Story
After receiving the Millies Mark award in our St Paul's setting we have become aware that a defibrillator and a de-choker would be an extra piece of equipment which could prove to be life-saving. We are seeing more and more cases in which a defibrillator is an essential piece of equipment, research has shown that if a defibrillator is used within the 1st minute of CPR needed the child / adult has a 90% chance of survival, where's as CPR alone offers a 6% survival rate. Research has also shown that choking is a leading cause of death in children-one child every 5 days, a choking death occurs every 2 hours and that choking causes over 100,000 visits to the A&E yearly.
At Funtasia Kids Clubs we feel that everyone in our setting should feel safe and that the next step forward would be to ensure we have defibrillators and de-chokers with easy access. At Funtasia Kids Clubs we have lots of young children in our care (ages 2-11) and it is our duty to make sure all children are safe and that we are able to give the most effective first aid required. All staff have first aid training and training in how to use a defibrillator so we feel that the next step is to purchase a defibrillator and de-choker for our holiday and pre-school settings.
We would like to purchase a defibrillator and a de-choker in our holiday club setting, located at St Raphael's school, and in our pre-school and before and after school setting, located at St Paul's church. We feel that this would be a sufficient amount to buy all we need. Rest assured that all staff members are first aid trained and do know how to deal with first aid matters but feel that a defibrillator and de-choker is the next step to enhance first aid given and to give all parents peace of mind.
