Story
As some of you may know, I try to encourage Dylan to understand that he’s a very lucky child, that other people aren’t as lucky as him, and that it’s important to help those who are not as lucky as he is. He’s almost 5 now and the message has sunk in, he often asks questions about adverts he sees on TV and will question when he sees people in the community with additional needs or disabilities.
This year we have decided to do a sponsored walk to raise money for a ‘real life person’ (his words) opposed to a larger charity. We are going to walk up the Sugar loaf mountain, situated in Monmouthshire. Yes, up a mountain!! We will do this on Good Friday, 20th April 2019.
We are doing this for Elisha.
Elisha Stewart is a colleague of mine. Elisha has a condition called type 2/3 SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).
SMA is a genetic muscle wasting disease meaning Elisha is wheelchair bound and unable to stand. She also struggles, particularly in the cold weather, with respiratory infections, often leading to hospitalisation. (More information on SMA can be found at www.nhs.uk/conditions/spinal-muscular-atrophy-sma/ )
Elisha has had the opportunity to try out a specialist piece of equipment called the innowalk. The innowalk is a unique piece of equipment that would allow Elisha to move from sitting to standing to moving with the assistance of the machine. Having use of the machine would allow Elisha to build up the strength in her legs, challenge her chest and improve her lungs and blood flow. More information on the innowalk can be found at https://www.madeformovement.com/innowalk-pro
Unfortunately this equipment isn’t available on the NHS and Elisha needs to raise the funds herself to purchase it.
I have put a link here to Elisha’s own gofundme page. There are some photographs of Elisha and the equipment as well as a donation link. https://uk.gofundme.com/elisha039s-innowalk
So with all that in mind, please sponsor my boy (well, boys as although unaware, Bran will be coming along for the walk!)
You can either donate directly on Elisha’s page via the above link or here on Dylan’s page. Following completion of the walk we will transfer the raised funds to Elisha.
Please even if you can only spare a small amount - it all adds up.
Let’s get this fabulous lady what she not only needs but massively deserves!
Thank you 😀
