    Story

    Gone With The Stroke

STROKE DOESN'T DISCRIMINATE IT CAN HAPPEN AT ANY AGE TO ANY GENDER, RACE, SEXUALITY, RICH OR POOR. IT COULD BE YOU.

At the age of 47 my dad Kenneth Alcock had a devastating stroke despite being a young, fit, healthy, family man. Stroke killed the left hand side of his brain - leaving Ken critically ill in a coma. He was left with total right sided paralysis and disastrous speech and language loss.

After months in hospital and rehab my dad came home when he became his family's responsibility (sadly thousands of families are left in this situation with little or no help or no input from the services). Despite the prognosis that he would never walk or talk again my parents beat all the odds and got him on his feet! However to this day (21 years later) he has little or no speech.

'GONE WITH THE STROKE' A brutally honest, yet hilarious Memoir being written by Ken's wife (Trish Alcock) detailing my family's war with stroke. The main aims of the book are to raise awareness of stroke and the affects it has on a stroke survivor and their families. To highlight the struggle facing young children whose lives have been turned upside down. As I was 2 years old at the time of my dad's stroke I know the confusion and strong emotions you go through growing up.

This book will offer help to so many people fighting against stroke whether it is to smile, laugh, cry or to simply know you are not alone. It's ok not to be ok. I believe this book needs to be published. Every 2 seconds someone in the world has a stroke, that is soooo many people's lives crushed in a matter of hours, minutes, seconds. This book can reach out to somebody who finds themselves in a dark place.. It might not feel it but you will be OK. STROKE is something that needs so much more awareness, people don't understand the full impact a stroke can have on one person's life from physical and mental disabilities, damage to internal organs, eye sight, hearing, to feeling the cold so much more, toileting, washing your own hair, cutting your finger nails, making a cup of tea or even smiling and saying hello.

My dad, Ken shows such courage and bravery every day. He is amazing. Stroke can change many things but it can't change love. It can't change family. Every single day he battles with life and still smiles and make others smile showing what a true hero he is.

We have several large companies and charities backing and working with us to get this book out there. We want to raise the funds to be able to self publish the first print run then any profits from those sales will go into producing more books. Hopefully when enough books have sold money raised from book sales will go to stroke/brain injury charities. THIS IS NON PROFIT MAKING.

Please if you can spare money even £1 we would be forever grateful. Get this book out there and let's help stroke survivors and their families who are struggling, feeling alone, helpless.
