Story
Costa Rica is a developing country that has clear conservation goals. It requires assistance to meet these goals and 11 of our students have volunteered to help in two ways: 1. Increase awareness of and give practical help to encourage sustainable tourism. 2. Educating young children .
Our student volunteers will be undertaking their Conservation & Environment placement located at Barra Honda National Park. They will be involved in a wide variety of projects including studies of mammals and butterflies within the park, trail maintenance and mapping the numerous caves for which the park is famous. They will be also be clearing paths, making signage, educating locals on environmental matters whilst surveying wildlife and flora to inform future development. Our students will also be working in a school for underprivileged children on the outskirts of San Jose. They will be running educational games and group activities, providing emotional support and will share their own knowledge and skills to enhance the work of the local staff. Students will be using their personal interests and specialist skills creatively to carry out these activities including music, art and sport.

I decided to launch this trip and make it a realistic ambition for all our students, regardless of wealth or income. Each student has committed to private and team fundraising activities to strengthen the team ethos and to learn valuable skills before this life changing trip.
